#17. Exploring Ria Formosa in Portugal

From Portimão we sailed south. Our next stops were: cities of Vilamoura, Faro and Culatra Island. On the way we could admire cliffs and caves that fill the Portuguese coastline. Faro is the gate to Ria Formosa Natural Park. Park stretches from Faro to Tavira and is famous for its islands with sandy beaches and saltwater lagoons. It's a paradise for bird and sea species that live here.

The intention of the Park was both wildlife and small fishing communities protection. Those communities still use traditional fishing methods.Without the protection, they would be displaced by the mass fishing industry. Visiting the community was like travelling back in time. There are no roads, cars or technology. Instead, there are peace, happiness and unique atmosphere.
